MAD HE DIDN'T GET A HOOKER- Broadway To Vegas column of August 18, 2002

On October 16, 2008 Broadway To Vegas received an E-mail from a man who identifies himself as Paul A. Rump CTR COMNECC Little Creek, VA 41. He refers to the Broadway To Vegas column of August 18, 2002 in which I interviewed performer Jill Turnbow, the author of "Between Iraq and a Hard Place," which is her autobiographical account of her three-month stint performing for the United States military on a cruise ship in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Mr. Rump's comments:

Laura,
Recently I have been researching some material on the web for my book I am in the very slow process of writing and in my Desert Storm chapter one of the subjects I wanted to cover was "the Love Boat". I came across your web page and Between Iraq and a Hard Place.
I know more then a few Desert Storm veterans from all branches of the service, and I know of only ONE (1) person who actually got to go on R&R to the Love Boat in Bahrain, and that wanker was a Navy personnel type actually stationed in Bahrain. We heard rumors of the Princess existing, but like Santa Claus we never saw it. Certainly the grunts weren't going and I suspect that the majority of the slots to go were filled by those who made the schedule and their friends. Now I can say it - funny a lot of women got to go - trigger pullers not so much. I was boots on the ground and I talked to guys from the 24th MID, 82nd AB, 1st ID, Special Forces, EOD, SeaBee's etc. not only did they not go, but it was never offered to them. Oh, well, no hatin' here but when the ugly truth hurts…maybe it should.
Regards,
Paul
Desert Storm and two tour Iraq combat veteran
